Researchers and volunteers from University of California are working in developing a way to lessen the incidents of road kills in the area. Researchers gather information like photos, species identification and GPS coordinates of several kill spots. Soon an app will be developed based on the information the researchers gathered. This app would allow accurate location readings with the built-in GPS systems on phones. Researchers hope to predict road kill “hotspots” and implement preventive measures such as road signs.

If you drive a car, this is a question you probably have every so often – where is
the cheapest gas near me? Gasbag iPhone app’s primary reason for existence is to
answer this very question for you. Gasbag can use your location and show you the
nearby gas stations and the price of a gallon of gas in a map view. It also has the
symbols for different gas stations so you can easily how much gas costs at Speedway,
Mobil, BP, etc. The data for this is gathered by crowd sourcing so if you see a gas
station price not accurate or missing, you can tap and enter the price yourself
helping people in your neighborhood.You can set your app for any type of gas –
Regular, Mid-grade, Premium, oesel.
The app also features mileage tracking by looking at fuel efficiency, average price
you pay and efficiency of your car. You can also email yourself this data should you

It is also available as a Pro version for $1.99. The interface for both version ares
very simple and if you want eye candy you have to look elsewhere. It is very
utilitarian in its look and function.The Pro version adds ability to track multiple
vehicles and no advertising.
GasBag, uses a user-built database of stations and pricing information. Of the three
programs, GasBag has the best user interface, and performed quite well in my
testing. To help grow the database as quickly as possible, the developers have made
adding stations and pricing information about as easy as it can be. You can update
prices for any existing station with only a few taps, and adding a new station isn’t
much harder than that.
When you launch GasBag, the program asks for permission to use your current
location, and then displays a map showing that location, and icons for nearby gas
stations.On each icon is both the company logo and the price. You can also use the
magnifying glass icon to search any area of the country by town name or zip code, so
you can quickly see what sort of coverage your area has—or the coverage for an area
you’ll soon be visiting.
Cons:
The way GasBag works is people with the app submit the prices. So if you live in a
small that doesn’t have a lot of people that use iPhones, some gas stations may not
have the prices available. You have to have an internet connection to use GasBag, so
people with iPod Touches can’t use it on the road. Even though the ads do not take
very much room on the screen they are still annoying.
